Southwestern  School Library

Home of the Piasa Bird

School Library Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:50am – 3:15pm

The Southwestern School Library believes that reading is the foundation for students’ success in school and in their future. Each library offers a caring, helpful environment for students to browse, read quietly, use computers for research; as well as locate and check out the materials.

Each Southwestern School Library from Kindergarten through 12th grade offers a large collection of printed materials, 3M Cloud e-book library, and Zinio Digital Magazines through the Illinois Heartland Library System.  By having this consortium, the staff, students, and community are able to order from over 650 libraries within the southern half of Illinois. A courier driver delivers weekly to each library.

Students in the elementary libraries are allowed to check out 2 books for one week. At the MS/HS library students may check out up to 5 books for a 3 week time period.  Elementary students will be charged for any lost or damaged book.  In the MS/HS library students are charged $0.05 a day for each day the books are late and for any lost or damaged books. A fine or overdue notice is sent via email or paper form for each of these fines.

Mrs. Naugle, the district librarian is available at the MS/HS Library every day, and occasionally at the elementary libraries. Mrs. Simpson, the library media aide, is available at each elementary building throughout the week.
